Observation
Remotus is quick to notice these unique wasps. Mud daubers are slender, usually black or metallic blue, with long, narrow waists. They are known for constructing distinctive mud nests, which can often be found on the sides of buildings, under eaves, or in sheltered outdoor areas. Remotus advises you to look for their small, tube-like nests made of mud, which are often an indicator of their presence.
Outlook
Remotus views mud daubers as less of a threat. Unlike other wasps, mud daubers are generally non-aggressive and rarely sting unless provoked. They actually help control spider populations, as they hunt spiders to provision their nests. However, Remotus suggests monitoring their nests, as their presence may indicate an underlying spider population. Treatment usually takes a few days, involving the safe removal of their mud nests and preventive measures to discourage them from returning.
Gateways
Remotus knows where they like to set up shop. Mud daubers usually enter homes through open doors, windows, or small gaps in walls, especially if they find a suitable place to build their nests. They prefer sheltered, undisturbed locations. Remotus recommends sealing entry points and removing old mud nests to discourage them from returning and building new ones.
